I thought this chart listing venture capital investment in 2014 was interesting because it proves that these investments are alive and well in Rochester, and that companies are being created and invested in.

The study says that 160 metros received Venture Capital Investment in 2014. Rochester is 71st on this list with 22 million in investment, and in terms of actual deals is in the top 40 with 12 deals last year. This really isn't too shabby at all when comparing to peer cities.

This is good news and interesting. VC activities are highly concentrated in just a few locations, outside of the top few cities, VC is not a significant source of investement. 22 million really isn't all that significant for Rochester, it's like the value of a single housing subdivision in the suburbs. What caught my eyes were the stellar performance of the Bay Area. San Francisco and San Jose were #1 and #2 respectively, taking in more than 22 billion collectively. Probably more than the next 20 cities combined. Total investment of all cities on the list was only 49 billion.
