Rochester Institute of Technology has moved up the ranks as a school with one of the top video game design programs in the world, as listed by the Princeton Review.
RIT’s game design and development program was ranked third at the undergraduate level and seventh at the graduate level in the 2016 annual listing, university leaders announced Tuesday. RIT ranked sixth at both levels in 2015.
The Princeton Review selected the schools based on a survey of 150 institutions in the United States, Canada and abroad offering game design degree programs. Key criteria included academic offerings, lab facilities, graduates’ starting salaries and career achievements.
More than 100 RIT students, faculty, alumni and staff are in San Francisco this week to attend Game Developers Conference 2016, the world’s largest professional gaming industry event of the year.
“This is of particular importance this year having just been named one of three New York State Digital Gaming Hubs,” said Jennifer Hinton, chief communications officer of RIT’s MAGIC Spell Studios LLC.
