It was the winter of 1990-91. I was a student at the U of R and it was freezing cold. I for some reason was at 12 corners near where Winton, Elmwood, and Monroe meet going somewhere while waiting to catch a bus/make a transfer.
The bus was not due for another 45 minutes or so. So I ducked into a few stores to stay warm, pretending to shop, hoping they wouldn't kick me out. One was either a CVS or Fays Drug Store. Eventually, as the bus time neared, I looked out the store door, only to see, to my horror, my bus blow by my stop 10 minutes early, like a bat out of hell (my watch was very accurate)! I generally went to the stop 5 minutes early, just in case, but it wouldn't have mattered this time.
I was furious. This was in the days before cell phones. Otherwise I would have called and maybe the dispatcher maybe would have ordered the bus to go back since it was so early. The bus should have stopped there and waited for 10 minutes. I have seen that happen before if it was 2-3 minutes early. But I was young and didn't want to have to bother the store to use their phone or freeze outside trying to find a payphone. I ended up waiting another 45 minutes to an hour and this time the bus was on time.
I still remember this incident 25 years later. That was the only time in my life I have seen a bus come so early. I did see my Greyhound (?) bus in Middlebury, VT come one hour late though in January of 1988.
