I have been to several cities in New York such as buffalo, the falls, James town etc. but I have yet to visit Rochester. I have heard a lot about Rochester receiving great reviews such as one of the top cities to raise a family etc. I live in Georgia and is looking forward to relocating to Rochester. I want something different with more opportunities. I will be starting off small with limited resources and unemployment. How are the homeless resources there? Are they helpful? Can I expect long term unemployment? How hard would it be to "start over"? a list of the places and resources I could look into would be most helpful. I know the downer of facing homelessness and options that are better before relocating, I just would like advice from people who been there or advice in getting on your feet in Rochester. I have sales experience and merchandising experience if this info is needed in your advice.
If you are planning on living off of the hard work of others, please stay where you are. Rochester has a plethora of opportunities of which so many others already spurn. Why is it so hard for someone to get up in the morning and go to work?
Of course you will be welcomed with open arms by all of the social service programs here. You can live in free housing, get free food, free utilities. Is that what you really want?
Not trying to be mean but please don't come to Rochester. My advice is to get a steady job were you are, even if it's retail. Save up for a few years, hopefully by then you will have been promoted, then if you're still interested in Rochester move here and use your savings to get by a few months and find an assistant manager job or something. Social services are for people who actually need them for a limited time period in tough times.
