Hey! As a lesbian, I can safely say this is a pretty gay friendly area. I know of several lesbian social groups that vary in age make-up and social activities.
If security is your thing, I happen to know that The Strong National Museum of Play has a job posting for a security officer right now. It is a friendly work place with good benefits, although I don't know what the pay in that particular department is like.
You already got a bunch of great info on neighborhoods... not much for me to add there. I previously lived in Park Ave and loved it. At the moment I am living with my girlfriend in Pittsford, so a bit of a change, hahaha. Eventually I would love to move back into the city but it can be hard to be too choosy with a 55lb mixed breed dog.
