There's a part of Brighton which is within the Penfield school district, so school taxes are much less there. Several friends of mine live right in that area, none have kids at home. I'd recommend it, lower taxes, but very "close to the action" in the city, so to speak.
East Ave. Wegmans is close to there, although the one on Penfield Rd. isn't far away.
For a reference point, the area I'm describing is right around Mercy High School.

Another thing I just thought about given where your family is located is that the nearby villages of Spencerport(surrounded by the town of Ogden) and Churchville(surrounded by the town Riga) also have lower electric rates due to getting it via NYPA(New York Power Authority). So, that may a couple of other options to consider.
