are fairport and perinton used interchangeably? (Penfield, Spencerport: house, neighborhood, schools)

I just moved to perinton and it seems like everyone that I talk to that lives in perinton says they live in fairport even though they don't live in the village. I never hear anyone say perinton they always say fairport. Just curious as to if that's just how it is because I am a resident now and wondering what I should say when people ask me where I live.
Probably easier to just say Fairport, even though technically it may not be true. I just checked on Google maps and had no idea Perinton actually just covers a larger area that contains Fairport within it's boundaries, and I have lived here most of my life. I guess I always thought there was a "Town of Perinton" somewhere, but apparently that's not the case at all.
Yea I gues technically fairport is just the village but everyone I know in the borders of perinton always say fairport. Can I write fairport as a mailing address?
If you want to be even a little more confused, parts of Penfield also have a Fairport mailing address but they pay taxes to Penfield. I've heard people describe living in Perinton as both Fairport or Perinton. You should only write Fairport as your mailing address if that is how the post office defines it though. Otherwise your mail may end up taking longer or get lost if it gets sent to the incorrect address.
I just bought a house in 14526 zip code but it’s fairport schools and taxes are to town of perinton, but when you look up my house online it says penfield. Lol I’m confused. It’s between mid vale and eagle vale. What would you guys call that area?
I would say Fairport for sure. It would be one thing if you were out on the eastern border of Perinton but in a neighborhood like that right across the canal from the town, I think most people would associate that with Fairport. For example when we would go eat at Mac's over there, we definitely said we're going to Fairport.
Yea I live right off Baird in the subdivision next to midvale golf club. So you’d consider that fairport? I’d prefer that over penfield as I love the feel of the village of fairport and perinton as opposed to penfield
It’s penfield zip but fairport schools so that’s what throws me. I also get fairport gas and electric

My Mom lives in Perinton but her address is "Fairport, N.Y." .

Fairport is the mailing address. Just as mail is addressed to "Spencerport," and not "Ogden."
Fairport falls within the boundaries of Town of Perinton. Personally, I've always thought of the north-northwest part of Perinton near 31F to be "Fairport" and "Perinton" to be the area along Route 31 going east of 490 toward Egypt, and southward to the area by Woodcliff Resort, Powder Mills, and Bushnells Basin.
