I don't live in Rochester yet, but am thinking of moving there for work. I've met a woman who lives in the Finger Lakes Region, can't move to Rochester and doesn't drive. I'd like to visit her on weekends, but don't think I'd need a car on a daily basis, rather just from Friday to Sunday. What sort of carsharing arrangements exist in the city?
Carsharing along the lines you mean here isn't available in Rochester. Needing a car on the weekends (and maybe on the weekdays, since you don't know where you'd live versus where you'd work) would, in my view, necessitate buying or leasing a car here.
She is in a village in Yates County that is pretty much equidistant to Rochester and Syracuse.
Yates County is actually in the Rochester metro area and if it is the village I am thinking of, Rochester is a little bit shorter of a drive.
With that said, I wouldn't rule out Syracuse as an option as well.
I dare say that even Ithaca could be an option due to having car sharing and the distance is pretty much the same as going from Rochester or Syracuse. Other Transportation | Ithaca Carshare
This of course would be contingent upon the type of employment you are looking for.
