So hot off the press this morning...that giant brownfield in NW Rochester that has been shrinking for the past 20 years is now known as "Eastman Business Park" instead of "Kodak Park". Apparently the motive behind this is to make the area more attractive to outside businesses so it is not just seen as a place for kodak employees to work. Personally I can think of a multitude of better areas around Rochester (city and the suburbs) that would be much more appealing to businesses to operate (and you know, not worry about getting cancer). What do you guys think?

Actually there are a number of businesses in there already. The park has its own power plant, security, industrial sewers, waste water treatment, railway, etc. The infrastructure is what they are going to be trying to sell themselves on. The power plant offers electricity, steam, etc. If they can sell it cheaper, then the next guy, more power to them. Kodak actually has alot to offer if you think about it.

Kodak still makes chemicals in the park. The sign on rt104 that says iso 14001, that is a quality standard set for chemical plants. How much Kodak has cleaned up that leak from 20 years ago I don't know. But you don't hear much about it from the news.

Also, the park is located within the city, businesses wouldn't have to bulldoze more trees.

Sir, obviously you are not informed. I challenge you to name a better place in the surrounding area or even in the northeast to move or expand a company. Eastman Buisness Park is a city within a city. It's own power facilities, high purity water, steam, railroad, trucking, miles of roads and many other things. Yes, Kodak Park has been a manufacturing site for many many years, but to make remarks like getting cancer shows just how uninformed you really are. Kodak is one of the cleanest and safest industrial sites in the northeast. It has spent millions if not billions to comply with all regulations and be a good neighbor. You sir, are a perfect example of someone who speaks before they think. I suggest doing some research before coming to such outlandish conclusions. The idea of eastman Buisness park is a win, win , win for the Company, for the community and for any one wishing to take advantage of of this world class oppurtunity!

Elmgrove never filled in like ot was supposed to, although it appears Kodak Park is doing OK in some spots. Perhaps it is because of the power plant.

I work across from Elmgrove. I don't know all the businesses that are in there, but the parking lot is always full.

I'm not sure how Kodak is marketing the park. But if your a small business owner, you could "rent" from Kodak and get all the amenities of a large industrial complex. Kodak has some green initiatives which could be marketable for small business owners as well. Having your own power plant also means you set the price and don't have to worry about RG&E.

Which parking lot? There are many on that property.

I'm aware a good company out of Canada recently put a machine shop in one of those buildings. Not sure how much is left at Elmgrove after Heidelburg skipped town.

This is true, the power may be cheaper, however, most of your RGE utility bill is taxes via NYS politicians. Kodak has suffered like so many other businesses in NY and must be commended for their tenacity. I myself would be extremely happy with a place under their umbrella.

The parking lot we can see from Manitau is full. We cut through the plant parking lot today and most of the lots seemed pretty full, better than the shopping mall most days. There must be something going on there. I don't know what the lots are like closer to Elmgrove and Buffalo rd.
