My husband will finish his medical residency in a year from now.Which other city would be the best comparable to Rochester if we have to leave Rochester due to some professional licensuring?.We would want to eventually return to Rochester as we just love this place and quite comfortable living here.Any suggestions welcome. Thanks

...Buffalo?

Maybe Akron, Ohio.

THERE IS NO OTHER CITY LIKE ROCHESTER! LOL

But in all reality, it depends on what similarities you are talking about? Proximity to the Great Lakes, sense of community, historical significance (Rochester is in all seriousness probably the most historically significant city its size) nasaly Raaaaah'chstr like accent?

Buffalo, Syracuse, Albany.... Richmond maybe? Its a similar size. I don't know. The midwestern cities are nothing like here. The southern cities aren't.
western aren't
It really depends on what you are looking for.

I'll take a shot and say maybe Grand Rapids, but more conservative, Hartford, Providence, Salt Lake City(again more conservative), Richmond and Raleigh and that's only because the city centers are roughly about the same and the metros are about the same in population as well.

Are you looking in terms of perfession, size of the city, climate? You could try Grand Rapids, Cleveland or Buffalo. Cleveland and Buffalo are closer to Rochester and both have decent sized medical communities.

Lousville, Nasheville, Charlotte, Cincinnati, Charleston SC is nice but not real similar to ROC.. Buffalo, Cleveland, Syracuse, out West is waydifferent..Some in good ways, but it is a different atmosphere.

I did 15 years in Rochester. I cannot imagine how anyone thinks ROC rocks.

But...Syracuse...not Buffalo or Albany...just different.

Milwaukee...Minneapolis/St.Paul...Dubuque...Madison (better than ROC). Louisville or Cincinnati.

A lttile different but comfortable...Tucson...The Triangle...

Maybe Saskatoon or Regina.

Most of those cities share a property...but I cannot imagine what it is.
