People that want simply to shop with their families and not "hang out" are going to choose the best environment for their loved ones, regardless of "size". I now drive the extra miles to EV or Great Northern or slosh in the snow covered sidewalks of Waterloo for that "quality of life" thing.
Other than residents of the northern suburbs of Syracuse, I thought the only people that go the Great Northern Mall in Clay were from Oswego County or from Canada. The Canadians like shopping in the Route 31 shopping centers for some reason...probably because stores like Target or Sears are not in Carousel Mall.

and it is the closest major strip with shopping to the Canadians that come from areas like Kingston, Ottawa, Montreal, etc.... Some go to Watertown, which has expanded it's shopping along Arsenal Street by the salmon Run Mall.

Actually I like the Great Northern Mall, nice Italian restaurant on Route 31 on the way home as well.
Bayrat, I don't know where you got your info from, but according to Wilmorite, crime was no more worse at Irondequoit than any other mall.
I did not state any crime statistics, but rather injected a quality of shopping experience into the discussion. Like I said, IM went from a pleasurable experience to one of dodging obnoxious loiterers, for lack of a more appropriate term.
Well, if you want to eat near the mall, there is a pasta place in the parking lot that is darned good for a chain, called the Olive Garden.
The one we like is Tassone's (may have spelled that incorrectly) really good Italian. This would be located just west of the Fireside Inn on the north side of the road. Of course you probably know on the south side is the water.

Irondequoit is directly off an expressway tied into miles of highway to the east, the closest mall being Auburn or Syracuse.
But Irondequoit/Medley has competition from all sides, other than to the east (although you probably have better shopping in Webster, just not in an enclosed mall setting) and Route 104 in Wayne county is no Interstate 87, 88, or 90.
Wayne county may have 90,000 people, but most of them probably have a closer mall than Irondequoit (20% of Wayne county residents live in the Walworth, Palmyra, Newark, Lyons corridor - making Eastview closer). Drawing from Wolcott isn't going to keep a mall afloat (and B-ville is probably closer anyway).
