Build an Off-Shore Island / Peninsula in Charlotte, with a Rail Spur. Rochester, Greece, Irondequoit, and Webster all sit on an under-utilized body of water, the size of New Jersey: Lake Ontario. It's time Rochester exploited the potential of increased trade with other Great Lakes states, as well as foreign nations, and build a real port for commerce at Charlotte. Now that's just crazy. Not the idea (I actually like it), but the thought that the politicians in this city would take a forward thinking idea like that and not completely muck it up.

The Wilmott fella also likes the idea of western NY becoming a separate state. Considering all the corruption, even in the small towns I dont think its a good idea. I could see the place turning into a 3rd world environment.

Yeah - people who suggest that don't seem to realize (or maybe they do?) how silly that sounds. They should say it again, and listen to what they are saying.
That being said, I also liked #4, but for Rochesterians, that would involve change, and for the most part people in this town aren't fans of that for whatever reason. For instance, they want jobs, but they want the same high paying assembly line jobs their parents had a generation ago. Most of the people who would support ideas like these left town years ago.

I cant imagine anyone in their right mind seeking a life as an assembly line worker, but I know many many people like that as a youth in Monroe county. I can still hear them telling me what a waste of time it is attending a university because by the time I finish it will take me 20 years to make what they will make. Non of these fools work at Kodak anymore.

Those days are over, regardless of where you are, unfortunately. Like some say, the game has changed and it take more than just having a good work ethic and a willingness to work.

So many people banked their futures on Kodak because their uncle Pete could hook them up and it all went down the tubes, same for Xerox to a lesser degree. I know a couple engineers I used to work with at Xerox who have found nothing but contract work since being canned in the 90s.
Wilmot writes some decent articles for that site, as does Wickes. Wilmot was a county legislator about 10 years ago, and he's benefited from his family connections (Wilmorite).
I disagree with him on the fate of the Sibley's building (I think it's his uncle who owns it, and he owes millions in back taxes and loans).
Some of Wilmot's articles are the same canned stuff one might see in the D&C. Downtown casino, "what if's" about the Rochester economy, etc. The casino would have been a disaster, in fact one only has to look at the one in Niagara Falls to see that it hasn't benefited that city one bit. The other one he whined about was what to do with Irondequoit Mall (Medley Centre). Whenever there's talk of major construction and investment projects in Rochester, he chimes in about it, and it's usually negative (because it wasn't his or his family's idea, or their project).
I guess what I'm driving at is some of Wilmot's articles make it sound like he's jealous of other Dems in county/city politics (Bill Johnson when he was mayor, etc.). He's part of the "Rochester Illuminati", as I refer to them.

On a short note, I would be completely against a casino in Rochester. All a casino does is suck money out of an already poor city. People gambling money away on something that has zero benefit. Nobody wins at gambling, just like nobody wins the lottery. Its a little rant of mine, but I cannot believe how much people waste on lottery tickets and high priced casinos.
