I will be moving the beginning of August to the Henrietta area to attend RIT and I am having a really hard time finding housing. My main problem is that I won't have a car and as far as I have seen, public transportation is basically non-existent (compared to Portland, OR it's pretty shocking). On campus housing is outrageous and I can't afford it, so that's not an option.

So any local housing websites or forums, other than craigslist, would be really helpful.

Any Henrietta used car dealerships that I should check out or avoid would also be a big help.

Thanks!

Why does on campus housing costs so much? Anyway, here is an area apartment guide: Rochester, NY apartments and classified listings from the The Renters Guide Magazine.

Here is the website for RGRTA: Rochester Genesee Regional Transportation Authority

What helps is that there is plenty of shopping in Henrietta down Jefferson Road.

I'm not sure about used car dealerships though.

Just from viewing RIT on a couple visits, it does not seem very public transit friendly. It seemed kind of isolated and is a large campus.

I looked at RIT's on campus housing prices 2013-2014 Rates | Housing Operations | Finance & Administration | Rochester Institute of Technology

At under $10k per year for an apartment I think that is cheaper than you will find nearby off campus.

Westbrooke Commons are close.

What type of car are you looking for? I would stay away from Dorchel at all cost.
