There seems to be no group for farm animal issues so hopefully someone in this group can help. We have 2 hens and 1 rooster. The rooster seems to "pick" on one of the hens, and now her entire back is raw, red, and without feathers. Other than getting rid of the rooster (my nemesis anyhow) what can be done to prevent this "defeathering" of the little hen?
Have you actually seen the rooster pecking the hen? It may be possible that this is your rooster's favorite hen and he is ripping the feathers off her back during his amorous attentions, which can lead to further pecking from him and your other chicken. You may want to look into a "chicken saddle" which is basically a little jacket that will protect your hen's back and let her feathers fgrow back in. In the meantime, you might want to separate your rooster from your hens unless you're trying for fertilized eggs.
It is from mating. Get several more hens and your rooster will be too "busy" to focus so much on this one hen. Two hens isn't enough for one rooster (at least not in my experience).

I have found that my roosters have their favorite girls. I have 2 roosters and about 22 hens, but they seem to like a couple hens a little too much.
We keep them seperated for awhile, personally we don't care for fertile eggs . We have 6 3 month old roos now ,will only keep 1 after they are big enough to decide which one is best to keep. All roos are seperate from the 9 3mo. old hens .
Once injured the other chickens will tart pecking on the hen, I'd move the roo .
