I saw this in another forum (where it was about big cities and huge gobs of people crammed together), and thought it'd be more interesting here. Feel free to use radii other than 100 miles, too. This site uses 2000 Census data, but is free and easy to use: FreeDemographics

Here's mine:

According to the 2000 Census, my 100-mile radius population is 26,448, almost two-thirds of whom live in a town 250 road-miles away. At 90 miles it's 9,685, nearly a third of whom are not connected to us by any road. When you get down to 40 miles you're down to 4,433, which is just my town plus a few people living out the (only) road.

Over 15 million and growing, but not as much as Tokyo's or Delhi's.

Where I'm going, I'd say about 2.5 million. But the 70 mile radius would put it to less than 1 million.

I will confirm this for sure later.

A hundred mile radius?
About 4,000. That includes the 'big town', 50 miles away, of 2400 people.

There's only 5000 people in my whole county - the largest (by land mass) in the state.

About 30,000 cows, though.

Interesting link. I have to say that the population around my place is MUCH higher than I had perceived it to be, even within 10 miles.

100 mile radius includes all of the Chicago and most of the Milwaukee metro areas, so... that would put it somewhere around 11 to 12 million.

EDIT: Guess I underestimated, turns out to be 12.8 million. 10% of that is within a 5-mile radius of me.

Actually the 70mile radius is 1.5 million. I underestimated. But 80% of the population is in the south or east direction.
