I saw this in another forum (where it was about big cities and huge gobs of people crammed together), and thought it'd be more interesting here. Feel free to use radii other than 100 miles, too. This site uses 2000 Census data, but is free and easy to use: FreeDemographics
Here's mine:
According to the 2000 Census, my 100-mile radius population is 26,448, almost two-thirds of whom live in a town 250 road-miles away. At 90 miles it's 9,685, nearly a third of whom are not connected to us by any road. When you get down to 40 miles you're down to 4,433, which is just my town plus a few people living out the (only) road.
