nice small towns around Santa Rosa that have a lower cost of living.
That IS a big challenge... just check with 'senior services' in the adjoining counties.
Petaluma has some really nice places, and CoL may be very affordable if you get reduced rent for housing / elderly / disability needs. This will be a very nice region to settle, so don't give up. Just DIG
Please forgive me for being the bearer of bad news but all the properties (and hence the rents) in the areas you are thinking about are very expensive. for small towns in the area you mentioned you could try Freestone, Graton or Bodega but there are very few rentals in those towns. You could try some bigger towns like Geyserville, Hopland, Healdsburg, or even bigger towns like Rohnert Park, Petaluma or Sebastopol. However I believe your best bet would be to try to find a shared rental (apartment or home). Or if you don't mind driving for approximately one hour to Santa Rosa try Clearlake County (the towns of kelseyville, clearlake or Lower lake) there are a lot of rentals there but they are primarily manufactured homes (a 2 bed room in kelseyville was ~500.00 dollars a month (3 years ago)). Best of luck in any case. I know how dificult it is to move. I moved out of that area 3 yrs ago after living there for some 27+ yrs.
Definetely forget finding an affordable place in sonoma (town), marin or Napa county.
Thanks for the info. We have family in Willits but dont want to be that far out from a major airport since i want to see my family in mo. from time to time. We like Sebastopol and Healdsburg even Petaluma. All our options are on the table.
Oops...on my phone, fat thumbs...it is supposed to be 25 minutes...must has missed the 2 and swipped the 4 on my way to 5...
My smart phone makes me sound like an idiot sometimes...
