It rained heavy in the Texas Hill Country on Friday.
Looking out my kitchen window, I can see two examples of "burrowing", one small, one large.
Heavy hail but then, just in those two spots?
Dogs? Armadillos? Hogs?
There is nothing out there but dirt, grass, and weeds. Further, the dirt was brought in when the house was built because before that, it was a hefty step up to the porch.
Maybe it was just the way the rain fell, pooled, ran off?
Most curious.....oh, and let me say, I also get a lot of bird strikes and birds pecking at the house windows right now. One just flew into, bounced off as I type this. Small birds from humming birds to cardinal size. It's road runner territory as well but while I have seen a lot of them out on the road, crossing for take off, haven't seen them here on the ranch.
Well, I pulled on my big girl boots and went out looking around the land. There is a lot of broken ground out there at the base of the grasses, mostly in the wild flower field but a few in the back as well. Prints as well. Some small like for deer but some quite a bit bigger.
Unless there is some giant sea turtle coming up from the Gulf to lay their eggs on my land, I have to conclude feral hogs, especially since I have had 2 sightings, 4 of them, in the previous weeks.
Now the issue is what to do about them...if someone doesn't do it first.
That is one of the differences from my earlier post of "Hunting the wild hog" (in guns and hunting) where the indication was they were not for eating. Here and with Tx Parks and Wildlife, the indication is that they can be.
