I am rather shocked that in the rural living area of this forum am called out on this legal action.
I guess my definition of rural is somewhat different.

This is a heavily forested area.
As the crow flys they are well over a hundred plus yards away.
Walking distance is about 3-4 hundred yards away.

We live in a logging community.
They are harvesting 50 acres right across the street.
They will burn that debris for weeks.
It’s part of the deal when you move here and everyone knows that or at least should know it.
I think they are pissy that they lost all their view and will soon be engulfed with lumber waste smoke.
Sorry but I can’t and won’t help them other than maybe try to schedule my burn days and that depends on their attitude.

We live on the edge of rain forests.
The brush gets so big it quickly reclaims your yard and you can not walk through it.
This isn’t a simple cookie cutter neighborhood.
There is no city even close.

That said I found it rather offending that I received crap over it.
I am not ashamed of being from California.
I am also not the tool trying to change things.
Ya don’t like the area or the way people live here maybe this place ain’t for you.

Andy.

BTW,
Oakwhatever,
Do you understand that forestry helps build America???
Do you have any 2x4’s or plywood in your house???
Chances are it came from my neighborhood.
G’day.

You didn't get crap from everyone here. The ones you did get it from can safely be ignored as cranks.

Well, Andy, as a crank I would say enjoy all the air pollution that will soon enter your home from the logging corporation. I hope you don’t have kids or a spouse who will also be breathing it in and having their lungs harmed for corporate profit.

Andy.

You have to understand the internet. You could post that you were out today, handing out $100 bills, and someone would complain that you should have given people $200.

Everyone is an expert. Burn your stove and do not worry about some busybody neighbor trying to tell you how to live your life. Until they start kicking in some money for you every month, they have zero rights to tell you anything.

OakParkForestParkExile,
We I guess are just have to agree to disagree.

Life is to short to have drama for me.

That said I live in a very peculiar different place/area than most.
It is logging country.
Do you live in logging country?
Most of America’s lumber either comes from here or just across the border from our Canadian neighbors.
It is an industry that we really depend on.
Could you imagine not having lumber?

They log, burn waste and replant.
After the replant stage it takes 5 to 6 years to look meh, and you can tell.

I think we might have one person per square mile if you averaged it out in my area.
Being that we are such a rural area, more rural than most we have different rules and act different than most.
These same complainers had no issue or thoughts about me when they blew off over $500 in mortar fireworks on the 4th of July.
I did not complain but I did not care for it at all.
Hey we are neighbors.

So that said,
If you don’t like the sound of dynamite don’t live next to a mining company.
If you don’t like the noise from jets don’t live next to an airport.
If you don’t like the sweet smell of garbage...well you know.
Trying to change these things is more than I would want to do so I would rather pick a spot that was better suited for me.

I don’t want to be a bad neighbor.
No way in hell.
They have always been good to us but I can’t help them much here.
I will however do the best I can without giving away my rights to make them comfortable within reason.

That’s all I got.

All the best.
Andy

Or you could take the middle ground and ask why they object to the burning? Maybe they have a good reason, maybe they don't, or have you already made up your mind that there is no good reason and they are already completely in the wrong?

No DubbleT,
I actually haven’t made up my mind.
That is why I posted this topic, to ask for advice.

If I can easily make things better for them without costing me I am totally cool with that.

Once again, I was asking for advice.
I have however found out that I am in a rather smaller or different situation than most.

Most people think rural living apparently means living a half mile out of town.
This ain’t that.

All the best.
Andy.

Glad to hear that, especially as so many of the responses here seem to be along the lines of telling your neighbors to go FO. I get that it sucks to be that far out and still not able to do what you want to do without worrying about anyone else, but since you do have neighbors out there in the boonies I think you'd want to give them the same consideration you'd expect. It sounds as though they made an offer or a request, not a demand, a conversation and a counter offer is the next logical step IMO.

As long as you don't burn poison ivy or other dangerous plants. It's fine.

When burning leaves in your yard, pick a day when the wind blows it away from your neighbor.

We are all on one acre lots and I enjoy smelling my neighbors chimneys burning wood.
