I don’t understand how the bolded sentence relates relates to the rest of your post. Who thinks they are better off than you?

Well, there are many posts in various threads from working class rural people complaining about how big city people move to a rural place and build big expensive homes, and then complain about the 'local yokel' mindset and their way of doing things; and yes, many of these people seem to that one's financial net worth is the sole determinant of how "better off" someone is. (And this last part also applies to some NOT wealthy people, too.)

I doubt it because there's only so much acreage available, and not everyone can afford it. People might want to move, doesn't mean they can.

People that buy bigger houses than they need to prove to the world "we are doing great" while putting themselves in massive dept. with an Escalade in the driveway. The people that can maybe afford all that by stomping on people to get it, like putting their name on everything they own.

We have well water and septic system. When power goes out, we have 10 three gallon water jugs for washing dishes by hand, drinking and cooking (wood stove) water. Landry can be done at a laundromat and we have a porta potty and camper for those needs. No problem. A little inconvenience but wouldn’t trade it for city or suburban life.

You don't want city sewer service or a water company to deliver tap water to you?

I want acreage as a privacy buffer. Keep all the looney toons away. You have the acreage but you only need to clear maybe a 1/4 acre or so right around the house. If that.
We have 6 acres of which most are trees to dampen noise, keep the wind at bay, for habitat, for privacy as you mentioned and because we like trees. We have some nice 150 year old cedars, hemlock and for trees. The neighbors seem to enjoy cutting theirs so we just plant more like fast growing red cedar and native birches.
