Hello! I would like to know if there are any towns in America that have an artistic community where I could meet local artists and also become more educated to develop my own art. I also would live to live in an a-frame cabin or a small cottage, as I don't need a large home to live in. Somewhere where I could garden would also be nice I don't mind what state, but have lived in southern Illinois my whole life. My mom suggested Viroqua WI, so similar places like that would be nice! I recently graduated high school, and I'm planning pretty far into the future with this request, but I've always loved art and hope I can make a career out of doing a variety of it. Thank you!!

Virtually every state in the country has areas like this. Most are near a Uni of some sort with fine arts programs.

Find one of those Uni's. Meet people there. Take as many classes as you can.

OP, I think you'll find that most people in these kinds of settings are retirees who made their money in something else. Fine art is another field where the laws of supply and demand are suspended - there's only supply.

Ditto. The art music theater scene is dead.

Not agreeing with dead but certainly on hiatus.

My suggestion would be to try to learn a trade 1st. If you creative talents lie in metal work, learn welding. If painting/drawing is what you're leaning to, learn advertising/graphic design.

Point being learn a skill. Living on art alone of any type in the best of times is rarely done. Now, even less.
