They put mom and pop stores out of business, because mom and pop stores often pay more for merchandise than the DG etc., can sell it for. People simply cannot afford those mom and pop stores today.

There's a Dollar General about five miles out of town in the hills near Lake Oroville in Northern California. Its a rural area, but there are a lot of residents scattered around those hills on small acreages, so its always busy.

No. That would be the little town out in the middle of nowhere.
The middle of nowhere goes on for miles and miles, and I thank God for that.

True. But the DGs are usually in the little town in the middle of nowhere. Sometimes in the big little town down the road from the little town in the middle of nowhere, or both.

So true... In my county, there is a store 15 miles from the county seat. From the parking lot of that store, the nearest town and the nearest DG is about 15-20 miles away....

The thing is, with the one closest to me, about a mile, it stays so piled up any more. If there are more than 3 cars in the parking lot, I will pass it up and drive the 5 miles to the newer, more spacious one.

They do tend to go downhill quickly.

I knew a man who had a gas station in one of the Wayne county villages at one time. His wholesale price was higher than the retail prices in Wooster.
