Not where I live now, but there are several near where I grew up, in a very rural area. I really wonder how large a market base they think they're going to get.

Yes, DG is a more complete store than Dollar Tree. It can be a one stop store.

There are a bunch of Dollar General stores here "out in the middle of nowhere" (13 of 'em if the map that comes up with google is correct), but they just opened a new one in downtown Huntsville. It's called DGX and is a little more up-scale than the traditional DG. https://whnt.com/news/dollar-general...in-huntsville/

Probably trying to protect locally owned businesses, and succeeded. There's small town here, really just a wide spot in the road, who banded together to save a local business. The town has a Piggly Wiggly grocery store, and Walmart decided to open one of their Neighborhood groceries. It didn't last long - the locals just kept on shopping at the Piggly Wiggly and finally the Neighorhood store closed.

Is there free parking? Kind of silly going to a dollar store and pay to park there.

We have two literally within a half mile of each other. The second one went up about two weeks ago. I don't understand why they built the second one so close to the first.

Sometimes such situations are a real estate play - land value up, taxed vs. no taxed area, or an attempt to quash competition.

Good question, and I don't know. I've never been. Pretty sure it's in a new building, that has the ground floor for businesses and several upper floors are parking deck. Don't know if it's free to park there or not. There probably are some condos or apartments nearby.

One hundred and forty eight posts and no one has addressed the real issue of having a Family Dollar/Dollar General store in your area. It means that the residents aren't as wealthy as people like to think.

No, they are filling a need. The mom and pop stores in a lot of areas, are leaving, if not gone. Yea, there are a lot of chain filling stations, that carry what you would buy when stop to buy gas. Some of those don't even carry milk anymore. Don't look down your nose and judge an area, if you pass a Dollar General store.
