But the white sheers do NOT help at night! (Can still see in, because of such lighting difference)

On the front windows of my house, I have two pairs of sheers on each window rod, so passersby can't really see very much unless I or others are near the window. Even then, the sheers obscure most details. If I only had single pairs on each window, then it would be relatively easy to see into the house.

We live waaaay out, so we do not have curtains. We do have pull-down shades for when a visitor just can't handle sleeping in a curtainless room, but when it's just us, they stay up.

We do, for privacy but also because from May-July the sun rises in the 4am hour (we are in WA but not far (as a crow flies) from the PT-MT border so we have early sunrises.

LOL, my house is in the middle of nowhere. I had a friend watch it for a weekend while I was gone. They stayed in the one room with curtains at night because they were unsettled by no curtains or blinds anywhere.

I've watched too many horror movies. I absolutely need window coverings.

In fact, it is very important to have window curtains in every room. It is for privacy, withstanding muds and it is good for natural air circulation sometimes.

According to the modern style, people want to use curtains that match the color of the wall. To me, it seems good to make a simple and undisturbed environment, which is very important for a living room.
