I live in a small town in rural Arizona.

If you express your opinion, my neighbors will listen and probably politely respond.

If on the other hand, a person come in and immediately starts with...

In California, we did this.

In California, we did that.

As though they are some savior to us poor uneducated rural folk......

You will probably pretty quickly hear... "Well, if you like California sooo much, why did you leave".

In fact, one of the common political messages during the last election was the statement .... Don't California my Arizona.

And, in rural Arizona, that sentiment is more than campaign rhetoric.

Just got back from a road trip to Colorado, saw multiple tractor trailers painted TRUMP on them or F Biden in a crop field along the interstate or billboards mocking Biden in CO, KS, MO, IL . I would call that pretty outspoken.

This is not a topic that has come up often with my neighbors. The area I live in is mostly agricultural, so the discussions at the local diner in the AM is normally related to farming in one way or another, which is indirectly related to politics I suppose. While there was some price volatility for various crops in 2021, I think the general consensus is that 2021 was a very profitable year.

This is not to say that folks do not have their opinions, and this area certainly leans red politically. However, you are not going to see people surrounding the county offices to protest some random cause or smash out windows at local businesses either. That is just not how people roll out here in the sticks. Provided you are not bothering anyone else, people generally do not give a flying f what it is you are up to.
