Today, while making a trip to a neighboring town, I noticed field after field of alfalfa being cut .

Since farms sometimes get a bad rap for offensive odors, the smell of freshly cut alfalfa early in the morning or late at night is one of my favorite aromas.

I worked on my Uncle's farm in the summers as a 12-14 yr old. I had some good memories there. Coming across what to some are offensive odors is simply a trigger for some decent memories of mine that I would have otherwise forgot. Although I don't want the sweet smell of manure in my kitchen, I suspect most that complain of it after buying a home near a pig farm will still eat a little bacon on a Saturday morning.

Around my area a lot of the farms are orchards, and this time of year is the best. Apple, Cherry, Peach, Apricot etc... blossoms all on the breeze. Then in the Fall the smell of the ripe fruit waiting to be harvested is pretty nice as well.

Unless you live in Rockland, Maine, apparently. LOL! (I wouldn't mind it, though!)

Could be chocolate smells - some small towns in PA have these, such as East Greenville, Lititz, Elizabethtown, and of course Hershey.

How about wild roses...so aromatic, but so delicate and sweet. They are blooming here now.

The smell of bread baking is the best IMO.

The lilacs have just finished blooming here; their smell especially on a cool night is so intoxicating!

I like the smell of fresh-turned earth; damp and a little bit moldy/dusky smelling.

I like the smell of rain on the hot summer grasses; the fresh-washed smell of the ground and even the trees after a good hard soaking rain is wonderful.

In the winter, I like the smell of a snowstorm, crisp and biting, and the underlying scent of woodsmoke, musky and homey and comforting.

Of course, I really do like the smell of manure! It is like a promise of good things to come - either beef on the plate, or something growing rampantly!
