I just happened to meet a nice sales guy in the local Best Buy who moved from Sacramento to Phoenix.

What are the pros and cons living in Sacramento and Phoenix?

I think both cities/metros are comparable by size and population.

I posted a similar thread comparing both cities here. Lots of posters gave me good advice there

ps. I think the Phoenix metro is about twice as big as Sacramento's. Are you looking to relocate?

If Sacramento seems too cold in summer and too rainy in winter, too dense and too crowded, if doesn't take quite enough time to drive out of town, you might like Phoenix. Phoenix is a lot bigger city (about three times as big) in a bigger metro area( 4 million vs. our 2.5 million) but it is immensely spread out.

Yeah, and it would be impossible to take a shot like that in Sacramento even if you tried since everything is so green here. Even North Natomas is greener than that.

I don't understand how phoenix has 5 million people in its metro area. Who would want to live in a suburban-looking, hot-like-hell desert city. Maybe the cheap housing? good job market? the abundance of golf courses? It's L.A. in the desert.

First incomes in both Phx and Sacramento are pretty similiar.

Average family income in Maricopa County is $66,752 vs $66,812 in Sacramento County. But the median price of a home is much cheaper in Phx $142,700 vs $186,600.

Its really unpleasant in the summertime in either Sacramento or Phx without an air conditioning. But with a/c the summers are manageable in both places. You go swimming, water skiing or do stuff outside in the late evening/ early morning. You might also escape the heat by going to the mountains (to Sedona or Flagstaff)

But the fall spring and winter are generally quite pleasant in the desert. This week the weather is going to be in the low 70's high 60's in Phx. Fog is not a problem this time of year in Phx.

Because Phx is a bigger city it offers more stuff to do. For instance it has its own NFL, NBA, NHL and MLB teams. The desert also has a certain charm. I also thought the Saguaro Cactus looked pretty cool. Phx also has some of that Santa Fe desert style architecture.

Remember most of Sacramento is pretty suburban too.

Plus if you're a moderate or conservative, in Arizona, your vote actually *counts*. Here in California, you might as well not bother to vote.
