I got a chuckle the other night when they showed a "witness safehouse" which was a very seedy motel in Granite Bay.

Most shows are not shot on location. Do you think Cheers was filmed in Boston? There are a few stock/scenic/skyline shots of Boston but they are shot in Burbank or Hollywood or surrounding areas. I have seen every episode and many are shot in the Santa Clarita Valley. I recognize the area.

"Mentalist" (set in Sacramento) is shot in Burbank. "Leverage" (set in Boston) is shot in Portland, Oregon. "Cheers" was filmed in Hollywood. "Law & Order" is a bit unusual in that it is, in fact, shot in New York. But, for example, "CSI" is almost completely shot in CA (the original is filmed in Santa Clarita, "CSI: Miami" is filmed in Long Beach and Manhattan Beach, and "CSI:NY" is filmed in Los Angeles).

Among TV shows which aren't filmed in Los Angeles area, most are filmed in British Columbia.

Of course. It would just be nice if the people filming had ever visited the city where the program is set so they realize how ridiculous the setting is sometimes.

Best Sacto location shooting ever is the Foresthill Bridge car jump scene in 'XXX'.

Whenever it's on TV I always check in long enough to see that. Then on to other channels.

Surely none of the SoCal/NorCal mixups in this series can top the hilarious episodes in the early X-Files seasons when they're in San Diego and there's lush greenery and the roads are wet - the X-Files version of SD is eerily like Vancouver.

Yeah, they show shots of Oakland Harbor and call it Sacramento Harbor, shots of the Maroon Bells near Aspen CO and call it the Sierra Nevadas, and regularly have shots of San Francisco skylines and the Golden Gate Bridge when supposedly in Sacramento. Interesting.
