Hi everyone,

I'm relatively new to Sacramento and am currently renting a place. I'd eventually like to buy a place, preferrably a place with a nice view. My preference has always been: I'd rather buy a less-nice place with a great view, instead of a nicer place with no view.

Are there places in Sac with good views? -- ie, a view of the river, view of the Sierras, or even a nice view of downtown or the Tower Bridge.

I know there are penthouses/lofts on the tops of tall buildings (ie on top of the Marriott; or the L Street Lofts) that would afford nice views of downtown -- but are there other regions near Sac (not too far away, like in Auburn or Rocklin) that have views, too?

Thanks!

Steve

Views of anything are rare around here, but, there are places along the river in Sac and west Sac that have sort of a view.
Out in Folsom and Orangevale there are a few streets where you can see the snowcapped Sierras during the winter, pretty cool.
Things are just plain flat around here...not much to see..

I have a friend who lives in the development called Anatolia in Rancho Cordova. His home is on a street next to a field and he has a unobstructed view of the Sierra range for miles. It's an awesome view in winter (when it's more clear)with the snow capped peaks! There are other places like that in Roseville and Lincoln that offer similar views.

There are many houses that back up to greenbelts, or the river. As we've been house hunting, everytime we see a greenbelt or river house, they each have a view. I think they are gorgeous.

Or get a condo downtown and live on the 8th floor, bet there's views there

Oh, my. People do not move to Sacramento for the view, I have to say.
But there are places along the American River that have rather nice views, and if you go to El Dorado Hills or anywhere around Folsom Lake you can get nice views there, too. Or around Lake Natomas. But this would mean paying more for rent or purchase of an apt/home.

I would think twice about moving to Anatolia. Research toxicity, Aerojet, Rancho Cordova (where Anatolia is). It is a subdivision that sits out on a desert-like, deserted plain with nothingness stretching around for miles. Then you come upon Anatolia - stuck out by itself with huge MacMansions, each maybe 4 feet apart from one another on postage-stamp sized lots. Read about the ground water.
But, the housing there is very cheap, as you might imagine.

Any new development can see for a long way before it gets built out--a friend who lives near Town & Country Village talked to his next-door neighbor who first moved there in 1939, and back then he could see the dome of the State Capitol from his roof.

As a flat valley, there aren't many views to be had in Sacramento proper or nearby, except of a very immediate sort. There are a few exceptions: along the American River canyon, out in the foothills, or on the upper stories of a condo building.

Admittedly, one of my favorite views is from 21st Street near T Street, the peak of "Poverty Ridge," downtown Sacramento's only hill. From the street you can see the skyscrapers of downtown and a rather nice panoramic view of Midtown's tree cover. There are new units under construction at the "Tapestri Square" project on that corner, if you have the means.

Thank you for the replies and advice. You're right, it's tough to get a nice view when the land is pretty flat. I think I may be resigned to trying to find a place in a highrise, near the top floors, for a decent view. Or a place in West Sac or trying to find a decent place along the river.

Although wburg did mention the Tapestri Square buildings at 21 & T. I was thinking of looking into them, but when reviewing this forum, these buildings seem quite controversial -- there's either a love 'em or hate 'em opinion about them.

Places along the river generally don't have much of a view--the levees are as high as the buildings, maybe you can see over the levee edge from the second floor. West Sacramento is even flatter than Sacramento, and closer to sea level.

I kind of like the Tapestri Square buildings, for a "skinny house" design (which seems to be the things that are getting built these days) they're not bad and they are comfortably appointed. Take a look at them and see what you think of them, not what someone else thinks.

If you have the means, the view from the penthouse condos above the Mariott at 15th and L looks pretty nice...

I think Folsom and El Dorado Hills are your best bets.
