I'm a 37 year old "Family Management Specialist" A.K.A Mom, and I'm moving to the Sac area. We are thinking of moving to Elk Grove. My kids are 5,8, and 11 and I want to live in a family friendly area with a good elm. school. Does anyone have an opinion of where that would be? I'm from Tulare/Visalia, CA but moved to Oregon a little over a year ago. I don't like living so far from family but my husband wants some distance from his. So we are moving back to CA! I need to know what areas to look to rent a house and where to avoid. Thanks!

Good Choice Mom!

Remember to stay in Elk Grove itself - because just north of it - is South Sac and that's where all the gangs and ghetto are

I used to live in the Laguna area - (by Target) and it was very nice and walkable for kids to get to school

My EX lives in the part (wish I knew the name) closest to the 5 freeway and it's the SWANKY area of Elk Grove - and the Elmentary school there is great

AND

Stay away for the "other side" of Elk Grove east of the 99. Although Old Elk Grove is cute and kitchy - the cheaper housing over there is not the best neighborhood.

Oh wow...!!! Not the best neighborhood???? I beg to differ with you..Im curious to know what your baseing this information on?
I live in Elk Grove, and have for years, on the "East side" of 99 and I would not live in any other area, especially not the "swanky" Laguna area..Nothing against Laguna, its a nice, newer area..Im just not into the traffic they have. Iam a professionl lady, not a "low life", like you seem to think folks are in this area. You know not what your talking about. .Shame on you...!! We are very fortunate not to have you living in this area..We certainly don't need snobs around here....

I'm sorry Cat - I did say it was cute & kitchy.

Do you have kids in schools over there? I was thinking for a FAMILY - as in children and the best safest areas of Elk Grove with the best schools

LOL No problem here..I just get rattled when someone bad mouths an area, any area, they know nothing about.
As far as the East side, it is a wonderful area, IMO..!!
Im just about 2 blocks East of 99 freeway, within walking distance to schools, post office, banks, Restaurants, and only about 3 blocks to the all important Wallmart..( to most people anyway) LOL Its right over the freeway and I walk most of the time..
The place the other person was refering to was what is called, "old town" with quaint little antique shops, wonderful Chinese Restaurant..People walk all over here all of the time..I see no fear on any of the faces..LOL
All of Elk Grove and Laguna were having some gangs starting but our local Police Dept. has really cracked down on them..If you would want any information about the areas around here, such as crime rate, gangs, etc. I suggest you call them. Im sure they would be glad to talk to you about any information you would want.. A new Mall is going to start being built in Sept. and as far as the local paper, the Elk Grove Citizen says, it will be done by Christmas.. Now, it you would like any other information, please feel free to Email me..I will answer anything that I can or refer you to someone that knows more...
When are you planning your move? Are you looking to rent or buy?

Good day to you..

For you information, the part of Elk Grove your calling cute & kitchy, is old town Elk Grove...Is that all you think is to the East side?? What makes you an authority on what is the best and safest areas of Elk Grove with the best schools, or any area for that matter?
Family's with kids live all around here..I see them walking to school and playing outside all of the time..
I really would like to know where your inside information is coming from, cause if Im living in a Ghetto, like you seem to think this is, I sure would want to know about it.LOL
Have you ever even been in this area?? It sure doesn't sound like it..Have you checked about the crime that goes on in the Laguna area?

I live in Elk Grove right now. EG is an upscale city with many professional workers, e.g. doctors, nurses, attorneys and so forth. It's a bedroom community of Sacramento. EG now has most major stores and restaurants. It's great for shopping. Housing prices are reduced. There is a home for sale across the street. Or, do you want an apartment. There are many complexes. The rents are on the high side. My children are grown so I don't know the quality of elementary schools here.

can someone tell me where Elk Grove technically is? People say not to go north of EG, but what does that mean? what area/street is everyone referring to? East of 99 what patches are shady or definite places to avoid?

TIA!
