I moving along with 3 friends from Nashville, TN to Sacramento at the end of the summer and need some advice on what areas we should move to. We are in our mid-20s and enjoying seeing live music and good bars.

I did some research and the areas that seem best are Natomas, Arden-Arcade, and Rosemont. Would these be good?

Most of all what should we avoid?

or is there another city in California that would suite us better for the same rental prices?

Do you know where you will be working? If you're working in the central city of Sacramento, I'd recommend looking at somewhere in Downtown or Midtown if you are interested in live music and bars. Not all of the live music venues and bars in the city are located there, but there is a large concentration. The #1 complaint I hear about the club/band/bar scene in the central city is parking--but if you live in the central city, you won't have to drive (and risk a DUI on the way home!)

Natomas is a brand-new suburb, built in a floodplain where there is a building moratorium because the levees are not considered safe. Arden-Arcade is a mid-century auto suburb, quiet but not all that exciting. Rosemont is similar, but smaller and less affluent than Arden-Arcade, and even less exciting for a group of young people. If there are 4 of you, it shouldn't be hard to find a large house for rent that you can split.

Generally between about 15th Street and Alhambra Boulevard, from the railroad tracks to Broadway. Downtown is east of 15th Street to the river.

Some resources that may be helpful:

It's centralized to a lot of different things, and we saw it as a starting point for our move to California. Plus, it's affordable and I've found a lot of job prospects in the area.

Is there another area that you would recommend? We would like to be more in San Francisco, but it's too pricey for us right now.

My recommendation, move to Midtown/Downtown and move your job down there as well. I have lived all over the Sacramento area and nothing is better then living downtown in the Grid.

There are always great shows and bars walking and bike riding distances away. When living downtown you are close to the American River as well the Downtown nightlife.

I love most about Sacramento is that it is like you said, a very centralized location. 1.5 hrs to Lake Tahoe and the Mountains also 1.5 hrs to the crazy but yet amazing international city San Fransisco. Redwoods north a few hours and LA were you would only want to visit is only few hours south.
