1) Is Roseville a nice place to live?
- Very much so.
2) What are the good and not so good areas or Roseville?
- Newer areas are generally better. There are no problem areas that I know of. Consider proximity to railroads, freeways and shopping.
3) What are the things about Roseville that someone moving from the midwest should be aware of?
- If you have kids, look at school district boundaries. If you are buying in a newer neighborhood, the municipal "Mello-Roos" taxes can be significant Otherwise, I'm not aware of any nasty surprises. Nice, overall.
4) Any recommendation for nice apartment complexes ($1200 a month and up) in Roseville?
- New construction has been slow lately. Generally, I'm not aware of any of the suburban complexes having any major problems, besides parking congestion. Of course, in an apartment, there is always the risk of noisy and/or smoking neighbors.
5) What would be the approximate commute time from Roseville to McClellan around 8:00 AM?
- West west Roseville is actually quite close to McClellan. The few bridges across Dry Creek have a limited capacity (avoid Cook-Riolo Road, it's one lane only), but most of the traffic is going against you (commuting from Sac County to Roseville). Other than that, there are no major spots of congestion. Check maps.google.com for estimates from specific candidate locations. Most of the bridges will get widened sometime in the future.
6) Are there any other nice areas around McClellan that I should consider looking at that would have a good selection of nice and fairly new apartments?
- Antelope is closer and slightly cheaper, but generally older. I don't know about possible rough areas. Former military residences such as The Arbors (older rental houses on bigger lots) look ok, at least from the outside. If you go further east (Del Paso Feights, Rio Linda, North Highlands, Foothills Farms, Elverta), you could find some rougher neighborhoods.

There are two hospitals in Roseville. One is Kaiser and I don't know much about it. The other is Sutter Roseville Medical Center, where my mom works as a social worker. They have a trauma center. Google can probably help you find out more about these hospitals.

The streets have been, relatively recently improved; Riverside Ave. is an example, and some neighborhoods are going to be resurfaced in the near future, so commute times may have improved and may be improving. It was relatively quiet, even on main streets over the weekend.

I have lived in Roseville, my husband works there and so I am there often. Roseville has it's good and bad areas just like any other city. Old town Roseville I would stay away from for it is awful, crime rates are high, lots of homeless and a drug dealer on every corner. My husband works by Denio's and he tells me how he sees hookers every day walking around. The areas by the Walmart on Pleasent Grove and the mall are nice, kinda pricey and the homes have small backyards.....but the crime rate isn't as high. The other side of Roseville (by Oakmont High School) is hit and miss, I swear one street will be fine and the next one over has drugs and crime problems. When buying a home, look to see if you will have to pay HOA's AND Mella Roos (that can be a few hundreds of dollars each month!) For apartments, go to the ones on Gibson Drive, they are nicer and in a good area. There are no good areas to live in near MCClellan, that area has gone down hill far. Other cities I would look into are Rocklin, Lincoln and Orangevale. Commute will be about 45 minutes one way, but some good music and get used to it, commuting in Sacramento is awful, lol

Zoom49 is WAY off on Roseville. I mean, what's wrong with fake boobs? If you want pretentious, Granite Bay, El Dorado Hills, Folsom and Rocklin have it beat hands down. I live in Rocklin and don't see any of that b.s. in Roseville. Most everything else you read here is accurate. I will tell you the Hwy 80 commute south, from Roseville, is no picnic. I don't drive it everyday but that stretch of highway can be unforgiving if commutes aren't your norm. Probably not that bad because the distance isn't much, but you can't leave Roseville at 7:45.
