Please name one band that skipped Sacramento because they didn't want to play at Arco Arena/Power Balance Pavilion. And if you have such a problem with public transit, you must have a big problem with the current arena proposal--part of why they claim they don't need a parking structure is because of its proximity to light rail. Although that means any events at this new arena would have to wrap up well before 9 PM when the trains stop running...

What is interesting to me is why they don't want an arena? I guess they find no value at all in what a modern Arena can bring to the region.

If Warren Buffet funded the entire thing, and purchased the Kings, these naysayers would find a reason to oppose it.

It happens all the time. Too many to list. They don't even consider Sacramento because they know the inadequacies of Arco (Power Balance). And they know Sacramentans will drive to the Bay if they really want to see name act.

It costs twice as much, and twice as many staff to put on a concert at Arco as modern arenas. They make much less money on the gig. Often Sac doesn't make the list. Arco was made on the cheap and quickly back in the 80's and when it first opened it was not the best venue for musical acts.

Jay-Z and Kanye West skipped Arco on their 2011 tour. They went to San Jose and LA twice.

How do we know who "skipped" Sac anyway? There are far too many considerations, other than the arena, to peg it on any one thing.

To wit, it's a huge loser on jobs and especially tax revenue (being that most people have a finite amount to spend on entertainment anyway, so more ball games = less trips to water park or whatever). Once you counted perceived value of having that attraction and that team in your town, both in terms of quality of life and local pride, then it's possibly a net positive. Of course, this relies on the "trick" of social studies to basically interview people and try to determine what dollar value they would put on those things. It's a well-established practice, but if you're a strong believer in fiscal responsibility, one dollar of city pride does not equal one dollar in the city coffers. And of course, that could just serve to reinforce people existing biases--pride and quality of life gleaned from this arena are not spread equally.

I personally don't care much about the Kings, but I do love this city and want it to become better. I'd even pay more on my tax bill to make that happen, if that would actually help. Not sure what side of the fence that puts me on.

From the stories on the Bee website, it looks like all the Northern California shows were consolidated into one show in San Jose, it was originally booked for Arco and then canceled, and the 2009 tour with Lady Gaga was canceled entirely, not just the Arco show.
