Yes, it would be awesome wouldn't it! The USA hockey team wins the Gold in Sacramento! Or one of your favorite figure skating darlings wins the hearts of America when she wins the gold right here in Sacramento.

Heaven forbid I would even want such a thing to happen in Sacramento when instead I could wait 10yrs for one of the railyards tin shacks to get a paint job.

• AEG owns, operates or is affiliated with many of the world's largest sports complexes, MOD CUT

• Leiweke is one of three brothers in the sports industry. Coincidentally, he was an executive with the Kansas City Comets soccer franchise when the Kings relocated to Sacramento in 1985.

"The (relocation) hurt that city immensely," said Leiweke, "because in the eyes of the business community and the media, it was no longer a first-class city. It took a long time for them to come out of that. And, ironically, I think Sprint Center had more of an impact bringing that city back to a point of excitement, enthusiasm and pride of any project since the Kings left. It's almost amazing that we're sitting here almost 30 years … having a conversation about trying to help save the Kings in Sacramento."

• The yet-to-be-named, yet-to-be-built downtown arena is expected to most closely resemble the Sprint and Amway centers MOD CUT

Leading Off: AEG's Leiweke says Kings' departure hurt Kansas City - Kings/NBA - The Sacramento Bee

Sacramento-Reno-Tahoe co-hosting the Winter Olympics sounds intriguing, but the availability of sufficient hotel rooms could be a major issue.

I was actually surprised it didn't come up sooner. The ESC proponents were looking for any potential upside (NCAA tourneys, NBA all star games) that would make the gamble pay off.

Oddly enough, I did some snowshoeing on the east side of Tahoe this morning at the site of the 1960 cross country ski races. Some cool history, but a reminder that someone would really have to call ahead to Mother Nature and make sure 2022 is a wetter year than 2012.

Knowing the MO of Sacramento, plans will fall apart six months into construction and we'll be left with a big hole in the ground for the next 30 years.

At this rate, it doesn't look like things will even get that far--the Maloofs have refused to contribute the $3 million in predevelopment costs (that was supposed to be part of their $75 million contribution) and the NBA is apparently going to pay it instead, plus they are now saying the term sheet wasn't a firm commitment and are continuing their talks with Anaheim. Maybe they can't even borrow $75 million and already know it, and are just trying to cut their losses?

Makes sense---if they don't have to pay, they'll remain happy.

I don't understand their logic though, saying they shouldn't, as tenants pay for development costs. If they just want to be tenants, why are they ponying up so much money for the arena? (I suppose in reality it's all financed, so it does end up getting paid back like rent.) And why are they slated to pull in so much from naming rights, parking revenue, etc?
