Can anyone tell me the approximate travel time during a.m. rush hour between Elk Grove and San Jose?
How about leaving San Jose at 5:00 p.m. on Friday night how long will it take to get back to Elk Grove?

With no traffic, close to an hour. But since traffic on I-580 and I-680 are usually bad, it will be a lot longer.

Of course, it depends on traffic and the speed at which you drive, but I live four miles north of west Elk Grove (Laguna) right next to I-5 and on a weekend without commuter traffic it takes me 2 hrs and 15 minutes to get to San Jose doing about 65 mph. I can also tell you that anyone heading to their home in the central valley or who wants to hit the casinos in Tahoe leaves that area starting about 2 pm on a Friday. The freeways I-80, 580, etc. are in full gridlock by about 4 pm.

Default 2 hours maybe a little longer

I used to drive that route & if there was an accident, it could take 4 hours or more.

I make that drive every couple of months. I usually go south to Gilroy and take 152 east to I-5 toward Sacramento. It is more distance, but the traffic is so bad coming out of the bay area on Fridays, I find this drive much faster. The 152 is a beautiful drive and no bridge tolls. There will also be less traffic taking 85 south from San Jose to Gilroy instead of taking 101 south. Good luck!
