Can anyone tell me if there are any Certified Medication Aide positions available in California/Sacramento? I know that every state is different and I never saw that position advertised on any job websites. Perhaps I'm just not looking well enough or you guys call it something different out there.

What sort of healthcare jobs are available in Sacramento? What are the CNA wages like out there? I am open to different options perhaps something that requires a bit of training but would be a good job for me out there. If anybody has any help or suggestions I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks so much!

As an RN I work in California for many years and I have never heard of that classification.

Ah. So who passes medications in hospitals and nursing homes and assisted living places? Do you have any suggestions for me as far as healthcare jobs? I've been a CNA for years but I don't really want to keep doing it for too much longer.

You can use your CNA credit to get some credit to go to LPN school. Then you can work as a LPN in a Rehab. You can find out about a monitor tech or other jobs in a hospital.

Nursing homes usually have 1 RN to disburse meds. CNA's do mostly the dirty work and the pay is only 11-12 bucks/hr. Good luck.

The UC Davis Health System uses Medical Office Service Coordinators in it's clinics to do patient check-in, answer phones, schedule appointments and tests, etc. They have a similar position called Hospital Unit Service Coordinator on nursing units at UC Davis Medical Center. Those postions might be options for you.

The majority of outpatient clinics and physician offices also use medical assistants, and in that setting MA's or CNA's are able to administer medication under the practitioner's supervision. A certification is not even required.

Sacramento is full of healthcare jobs -- acute care hospitals, rehab, SNF's, clinics, MD offices, health insurance..... It depends on what setting you are interested in.

Sutter Health offers low or no cost schooling to their empoloyees who want to advance their careers. I believe they are contracted with a private school offering LVN & RN courses.

I was communicating with someone who left Phoenix for Sacramento about two years ago. They had training and experience as a Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) but could not find a job. I would suggest you check the Help Wanted ads; you might be able to land a "sitter" job or get a little more education for a Behavioral Health Tech. When I started in nursing I worked for a nursing agency - the pay was better and I had plenty of opportunity to work (when people didn't show up or the census suddenly increased) - it meant be ready to go on a moment's notice but it also showed me a wide range of hospitals, nursing homes and private care that you don't usually see. Good luck. P.S. Your CNA license may not be good in California, either. Did you check that out?
