Last week we spent a day viewing the latest show at the Crocker Art Museum.
I bought fresh vegetables and fruit from a produce stand on the Garden Highway.
We swam laps at the local swim center in beautiful 89 degree weather.
We had a great meal in midtown. Parking was free and plentiful.

Life in the Central Valley is OK, even if we arent SF or LA!!

they seem to give parking tickets out like hotcakes in Sacramento, one time my meter time was up and less than two minutes later they wrote a ticket and were gone, didnt even see the meter maid, they sneak around on bicycles hiding behind corners, they actually watch the meters like a hawk so they can write a ticket

lots of red light cameras as well

Easily avoidable issues
1. Put enough $ in the meter and keep tabs of your time or park aft. 6pm
2. Don't run red lights

See, that was easy

The strawberry stands! I never knew strawberries could taste so good. My only regret is waiting a year after we moved here before we bought them.

All the places where you have to pay to park are within walking distance of my house, and wherever it's far enough that I have to drive, there is free parking!

I'm a week late. But still:
-I could actually afford a house here and it's beautiful. My neighbors are awesome and friendly from the very beginning.
-Having a good time is affordable at least a third cheaper than San Francisco. All the food and drinks is cheaper, even at the nicest places. (Ex: Shady Lady)
-Absolutely fantastic ethnic food. Places that are good and cheap and stay that way. (Ex: Pretty much anything on Broadway.)
-There are a ton of really cool people in Sacramento. It has its share of less than nice people, but the general feel is a little more laid-back and a little friendlier than bigger cities.
-There are real gems in this city, and they usually aren't completely overrun. (Ex: American River Bike Trail, Crocker Art Museum.)
-The weather, though hot, is better than almost any other city in the country thanks to mild winters, delta breezes and low humidity.
-Location is great. Access to the Bay Area, Tahoe, the entire Sierra Nevada range, not to mention two rivers going through the city.
-I know it's cliche, but the City/SMUD really does do a nice job keeping trees everywhere.
-Sunday Farmer's Market---wow.
-I do think it will be a more inviting city in 20 years, with some investment. I haven't been here long enough to know how we're trending =)

The economy is taking a toll on Sacto right now. I hope things improve some day.
But considering the insane housing prices in SF, LA and San Diego Sacramento is a decent place to dwell, if you live can live in a "good" part of town.
