I love that Gold Rush Alaska Show. Anyone try panning for gold?

We've done it at a friend's property in Placerville. My husband found a flake! But it was just fun since it was hot and the creek was nice.

Those guys are biggest idiots I've ever seen. Caveat: They certainly make more on the production of the TV show than they do finding gold.

I carry a gold pan in the car and sometimes when I'm out showing property, I'll take a dip or two.

I always carry a pan on my backpack, as I do in the truck as well.
We all find a spot we keep to ourselves like a secret fishing hole.

Just today, we were hiking on the American River, under the Foresthill Bridge, near Auburn. There were 3 guys panning for gold.

I've always wanted to try it. Where can you pan for gold in the area?

There's a spot on Highway 12 just outside of San Andreas where a creek runs under the highway just before it empties into Hogan Reservoir. Rare is the day when you don't see someone panning. I think it's the most "overfished" 50 yard stretch of creek in CA.

It's Papa Smurf goes gold prospecting in Alaska!

Oh, regarding the panning....
Get the biggest pan you can.

You're gonna need it!
