Hi guys, my family will be moving closer to Travis AF base and was checking out both Vacaville and Davis based on the elementary schools and proximity. We are raising two young children (3 and under) and will be in the area for at least 5-7 years. We will also be commuting to school up 80E and 50W. Are there areas for a family to avoid in either place (ghetto, crime, too many college students, too many college parties)?

Also what is there to do as a family or for date nights?

I moved from Vacaville to West Sac because Vacaville doesn't really have much to offer. My child is 11 and the schools are mediocre. Unless private school is your thing, then you'll be okay if you can get your child into Cooper Elementary, which is probably the only decent public school. Vacaville is a small town, but I think it's overpriced as far as housing goes, especially the Browns Valley neighborhood. Aside from outlet stores and a very small downtown area, I guess the only thing you have going for you is close proximity to driving to other towns. Kind of boring if you ask me.

Davis schools have an excellent reputation and the town is family-friendly (lots of parks and kid activities). Your big problem will probably be finding affordable housing. Commuting on I-80 will be a pain.
