Overall there isnt that much "to do" here. Downtown has some cool museums
and the Sac River. The American River runs thru the area and you can go canoeing etc. Otherwise its a huge flat suburb with distinctive "areas" like Folsom or Roseville.
You might like some of the cultural differences from SoCal. The traffic here isnt nearly as wild and road rage incidents are rare. In fact I dont think Ive ever gotten the "finger" on our roads in 15 years. In LA I got three "fingers" within two hours, my "crime" was driving like a normal sane person.
The outer suburbs are very conservative and mostly Republican. You wont see many Obama bumper stickers outside of Sac. County.
Good luck in your search!

There's a TON to do here OP, so don't listen to those that claim otherwise. People that can't find it are people that would be bored anywhere. I took swing dancing lessons my first day here, for example. Dirt cheap and I met cool people. This is a great city if you enjoy eating out. Restaurants everywhere, which Sac is getting national attention for. 20+ art galleries in midtown. There are plenty of bars/lounges too, and unlike Socal people here are very engaging to strangers....Like I said, people that don't know this stuff is here or think there's "nothing to do" are.......boring people.

What you won't find here are big ticket entertainment items, I guess. I know national music acts come through Arco arena (or Power Ballance) and UFC, but obviously with not the volume that LA gets. You won't see any movie stars here either or extravagent clubs. A lot of that equals "douchebaggery" to me though, so I could care less. I do understand that some people like to be around that energy though, and there's nothing wrong with that. But I'm sure you're not expecting that in Sac anyway.

Thanks for your input NewtoSD, the restaurants and family oriented activities are definitely what stood out during my visit to Sac. you're right it looks like a lot of musical acts are skipping Sac when they are on tour, which is a big downside, was bummed when they didn't end up building the arena...

A new arena wouldn't have changed the population of the region much, which is more what drives booking for major acts than the shininess of one's arena.
