We will be moving to Sac from The Bay area for my work this fall and have three..yes 3...dogs. They are all small, 2 under 20lbs and the 3rd is 35lbs. They are all trained, well behaved, adult, non-agressive breeds. My husband is retired so they are rarely alone. We have been home owners, have good credit, good references, and steady income. We will likely buy late next year if my Sac job is a good fit but for our renting time...I always panic about finding a "3 pet" accepting place. Many of the complexes have a "2 max". (Historically, we have always been fine, on the East Coast, CA Central Coast, and in the Bay, we have ended up with several good options...but I still obsess about finding a place)

If anyone knows of any, I'd love the info. Although I'd love to be about 20 minutes from McClellan, we are pretty open to location with r/t drive time to the city..from living in the the actual city to anywhere from Vacaville, to Auburn, to even Cameron Park...if we can have a safe place for our boys

thanks!

I would suggest talking to a property managment company. They will likely know who accepts multiple dogs. When I moved out of Sac we had three dogs and were able to find a place. It did take some time, so start as early as possible.

Thanks Jen. I think I will try that. We have always looked on our own in the past...and it took tons of phone calls and emails and visits. Maybe I need to just hand it over to a professional who is familiar with the area and have all the options weeded out for us, then look.

I think it will be much easier, especially since there is no charge to you to use their services. It probably comes through in the form of higher rent, but it isn't that expensive, so the increase it minimal. Plus I like having a company to call when there is a problem, they tend to be better about fixing problems than a single home landlord.

Happy looking and good luck!

I found that private rentals were much easier to work with with pets then property management companies. I think if you are willing to pay the rents for a house (1K or so), you will have no problem finding a place to accept you and your dogs. However, I do think you will get push back from most apartment complexes on 3-dogs, as homes with yards are more common here and most multidog owners choose to live in those.

Thanks Lillp. The last three times we have needed to rent (prior to that we owned homes back East) we went with houses. The rents were more, but the convenience of a fenced yard was worth it. I'm grateful I have a month or two to just get use to the areas of Sac before we have to choose one so we can pick the best place for us.

Antelope would suit you well. Many vacant homes for rent.

But are you on the Road to Shambala?

Nick, I am SUCH a nerd. I had to google Shambala!! LOL.
Interesting you mentioned Antelope. My co-worker lives there and we were just talking about it today. She said the same thing and I told her it was on our "short list" of places to look. It does seem like a good fit.

We are looking at a place on "6th st near J"....i think its downtown. Any thoughts on the area?

thanks for your help!

6th and J in Sac? That address is pretty "deep" downtown and I don't think there's any residential there. The new Church of Scientology building is there though.
