My wife is doing some research on preschools in the area and would like to get recommendations that meet the following criteria:

-nonsectarian
-true preschool (not a day care)
-in Granite Bay or very close to
-warm nurturing environment not all academic

Thanks in advance!

Have you looked at Granite Bay Montessori school? It's K-8.

Do they have preschool as well? We're still a year off on kindergarten.

Preschool is preschool. All you do is fingerpaint, ride the big wheel and eat applesauce.

LOL! that's what I thought too. But it's actually not like that anymore.

Right? I remember doing that in kindergarten... not anymore. Preschool is the new kindergarten. I didn't go to preschool myself, so I can only imagine how much more advanced I'd be right now.

A big study was recently done on preschoolers. Play-based preschoolers started a little behind, but caught up academically vs. education-based preschoolers by the end of kindergarden. Play-based preschoolers were happier, calmer, and liked school better. Education-based preschoolers were more timid in school, scared of taking tests, and generally disliked school more so than others. This difference lasted for years past kindergarden.

No, it's not bad to teach kids before kindergarden. But really, it's not necessary to drill them 4 hours a day academically when they are 4 years old and younger. Kids do need to play, it helps them thrive!

As long as you learn to tie your shoes before preschool is over you are ahead of the curve.
