Arden Mall is a *great* place to have your car broken into by South Sac scum that hang out there since the mall down in South Sac closed. Or you get cussed out by the men riding bikes through the parking lot - that live in the nearby Section 8 housing, and who get a monthly check for doing nothing - when you tell them to get a job rather than beg (particularly when they are healthy enough to ride a bike, probably stolen, all day). There are lots of great cafes and coffee shops in Midtown that are locally-owned and would love to have your business. Avoid the malls, particularly Arden Fair, like the plague. BTW, the place where I and my children were physically threatened and motheryouknowwhated by that scumback was at Best Buy next to Cheesecake Factory. I will never go there again.

The best place to park at Arden Fair is the Nordstrom's parking structure. I've never had any issues there.

I'd suggest that you check out the Pavillons on Fair Oaks Blvd...great shopping & a couple of restaurants. Here's the website: http://shoppavilions.com/ The restaurants are Bella Bru, Piatti, and Ruth Crisp. But there are a few other really nice places nearby & less noisy than Cheesecake Factory (even tho I like CCF too)....like Roxy or Bandara or Ettore's on Fair Oaks Blvd, Lemon Grass on Monroe.

I second cali's suggestion. Pavillions is MUCH nicer than Arden, its probably a couple of miles or so as the crow flies from Arden and scum is generally discouraged from hanging around there.

"Not expensive" is a bit vague and, of course, subjective. What's your budget? What kind of food do you like? Ideas of "fun" also obviously vary from individual to individual. It's been a couple of years (we don't live in the area), but we enjoyed the Marrakech Moroccan restaurant on Fulton Avenue (we weren't there on belly dancing night) and the iconic Frank Fat's downtown. My wife is a big fan of Fat City in Old Sac. We are not fans of the Cheesecake Factory chain (the huge portions aren't a big plus for us), but different strokes for different folks and many people obviously like it. We've been to Arden mall and did not have our car broken into. Didn't see any "scum" hanging out there, but maybe we aren't adept enough at spotting such folks.

What you are looking for is The Mix downtown. Show up before 6pm for happy house specials on drinks and small bites. Great atmosphere on the rooftop and no cover before 9pm. If you staya fter 9pm then there is some dancing. Really a fun, centrally located place. We've had a few meetups there.
