My husband and I are considering relocating for an early retirement to Grass Valley or Nevada City. We love to shoot clay traps and target shooting. We'd like to find something with at least 2 acres with no Homeowner's Association or CC & R's. Do the local laws allow you to shoot on your own property under those circumstances? Thanks!!

The place to research this is the county ordinances, which are likely to be found on the Nevada County webpage.

It is definitely a no-go in the city limits and subdivisions. The laws regarding distances from streets, streams and structures are also likely to prohibit shooting.

Nevada County Sheiff-Coroner-Public Administrator. Home Page

I'd ask a realtor when you start looking seriously. You may conceivably end up looking in more than one county.

2 acres is a little small to be shooting on. My county has a 500' distance from any structure ordinance.
