In Walnut Grove, you can look at the scoring for the schools on this site under each individual school (Like Walnut Grove Elementary)
School : Home

For Roseville schools you can go to
Roseville Area Schools Assessment & Evaluation

All California schools have scores and you can see which area has the best scores of where you would want your kids to go....

For crime information, you can go to Moderator cut: link removed, linking to competitors sites is not allowed and look up the city and then go to the crime tab..... it can tell you what the crime rates for each area is.

It's a pretty neat site for finding statistics on schools as well...

It takes me no more that 25 minutes to get into Elk Grove ever. We don't take the highway in kind of takes u off course. Like someone else said, there are some homes along the river, they have the levee road, hy 160, between their homes and the river. We call it mansion row and those houses are hard to come by and very expensive. Behind that area is a small neighborhood with semi-custom and custom built homes, some are older others are fairly new. the older ones have less land, the newer ones range from 1/4 to appr 1 acre lots, this is on Grand Island. There are homes on the other side of the river but most are tiny with no yards. Unless you are living on the river.
If you have any other questions I would be happy to answer.
Jennifer

Thanks for the info. You have cleared up some misunderstood ideas I had about the proximity of Elk Grove and Walnut Grove.
I'm basically looking for a small town with a slow pace just outside of a large enough area to support a dentist. I have the commute pictured more like 10 minutes, but I suppose I am forgetting that this is CA I'm talking about.
My in-laws have found the ideal place in northern UT, and I'd like to mimic it somewhere else.
I love the small town feel for raising kids, but the hubby's got to make a living, and I've got to have some conveniences within reach.
Your help is much appreciated!

I'm was born and raised in Walnut Grove, it's a great place. Everyone in the community knows each other. By the way Walnut Grove has not one, but two dentists. The commute to Elk Grove is about 25 mins. Walnut Grove is great to live in but you should have a reason to be involved with the town and not just be a commuter. It helps to be involved with community.
