I can see a better and more competitive basketball game at a half dozen courts in public parks thoughout Sacramento. We don't need subsidies for the NBA or for billionaires. If the market EXISTED for an arena downtown it would have been built long ago.
Pretty sure the market does exist, seeing how WE HAVE 2 GROUPS OF PEOPLE FIGHTING OVER THE TEAM!!

Next time u see Michael Jordan or Lebron James playing at a local park hit me up tho for real.

I honestly could care less about the skin color of ANY player playing professional sports. What I'm talking about is behavior. There have been white athletes with bastard kids too, there are plenty of dopers that are white in the snowboarding world and a lot of the extreme sports that are filled with athletes that are white.

There are plenty of white people that act like trash. Trash is trash regardless of skin color.

My point is the culture of the NBA is trashy behavior. Look at the fans, look at the woman in Miami - who likely got away with murdering her husband for money - flipping the Bulls player the finger. This is the kind of people that think the NBA is great. (Its not. Neither is the NFL, NHL, MLB, MLS... etc.).

The reason the NBA is dominated by so many black players is simple - we still have a culture where there are far more opportunities for people of pale skin to make it without having to go into professional sports. Look at Barkley's comments (and others) in the past - that they would like to see more black kids emulate what it takes to become doctors, lawyers, accountants, etc.

I see plenty of white, Asian, Hispanic gangbanger types running around Sacramento in Kings fan gear. I don't like it, and there's nothing inherently WRONG with my saying that I associate pro basketball with people that wear this kind of clothing, talk in gang dialect that you can barely understand, and think its cool to act stupid and act like a thug.

I would much rather watch a bunch of 10 year olds play pickup basketball. Its far more competitive and more fun.

Yeah, 2 groups of billionaires. That's not exactly a very large market at all.

You are assuming that when I'm referring to gangbanger that I'm only referring to people of color. You are wrong. I'm referring to ANYONE, regardless of skin color, that puts on the gangbanger uniform, haircut, tattoos, the music, the hat, the whole thing. I saw a white kid running around the neighborhood this afternoon in a Crips style uniform of giant white tshirt, red Cincinnati baseball cap, giant chain around his neck and shorts halfway to his ankles baggy, and he was obviously casing the neighborhood. Why do people want to dress like a thug unless, well, they actually WANT to be a thug?

You dress like a thug, and talk like one, well, I'm going to assume you ARE one (or want to be). I honestly could care less about your skin color. If you don't want to be treated like a thug, well, don't dress or act like one. Its pretty simple, actually.

My point is if you want to be treated with respect, act and dress like you are someone who wishes to be treated with respect. I really dislike the use of the term "racism" anyone because at the core, we are all human and skin color is pretty superficial for the most part. My point is bad behavior is bad behavior. Period. And when you see the NBA full of guys like Kobe, that rapes women, and guys getting busted for weed use, and the out of wedlock children, its not exactly great public relations for the sport, and I honestly feel there should be no public subsidies or assitance FOR any professional sport. If there's a market for a sport, great, but our tax dollars should not be used to pay for infrastructure that benefits a narrow private interest.

I personally would have NO problem putting a proposition on the ballot to build a really nice arena in downtown Sacramento, using an increase in the sales tax to pay for the bonds, if said arena were to be publicly owned and multipurpose - and that any professional sports team using it would pay rent just like any other organization or event that was using the arena. Or, conversely, if the Kings were a publicly owned and traded company like the Green Bay Packers (and this is the way all professional teams should be run anyway, as a publicly owned and traded good), I wouldn't have nearly the issue I have with using public dollars to support an entertainment venue.

But what you have going on here for the Kings, and in many other place in this country is crony capitalism - or you can label it corporate socialism, or fascism, but at the core the gov't is being used to pay for something that benefits a private party and not the public at large. Other than removing the effin' eyesore and failure that is the Downtown Mall (but nearly all of these have failed nearly everywhere they've been tried, or they are HEAVILY subsidized by public tax dollars, like Faneuil Hall in Boston), we are just saddling ourselves with a huge amount of public debt for nothing. We'd be better off to tear the Downtown Mall down and plant grass and bond the cost of ripping the building down.

You don't see the irony here? You claiming that these people that live differently than you don't deserve your respect, while at the same time profiling an entire fan base as being gang bangers. Also claiming that we shouldn't build an arena because gang bangers like basketball and have sex with people they aren't married to. We're talking about a basketball arenA not the headquarters of the Catholic Diocese.

"Living differently?" All I'm saying is appearances create certain perceptions, and if you dress and act like a gang member, I'm going to assume you are one and not choosing to "live differently" than I do. The fact that acting like you are a gangbanger is IMHO a *stupid* choice is another issue, but dude, every single TV coverage I've seen of Kings fans during this mess, or any rally I've walked by, it doesn't like like a mix of people from all over Sacramento - its overwhelming dominated by people who've got the "I just got out of prison" thug look with how they are dressed and how they act.

What I see is bad behavior and something that not only I'm not comfortable around but that most people would not be comfortable around. And why should the vast majority again, pay for something that most of us don't want and that an investment of this magnitude should be on the ballot?

Take the billionaires out of the equation; could the 10,000 or so really hard core Kings fans in the Sacramento area - and honestly, I doubt that the fanbase is really much bigger than that - pay for an arena of $500-$600 out of their own pockets? Um, no.
