Considering relocating to California for work; my job would allow me to live just about anywhere in Cali but we are thinking near Sacramento. It will be myself, wife, and 2 kids (11 & 9) so a good school district is a must. We have a budget of 700,000-750,000 for housing. We came up with Sacramento area because it's centrally located for day trips to Yosemite, Lake Tahoe, Napa, and SF. We currently live near West Palm Beach, Fl so are used to the heat. Any suggestions on neighborhoods? We have done some Internet searches and like Granite Bay!

Granite Bay, El Dorado Hills, Folsom and Rocklin would be good choices.

The heat here will be different than what you experience in West Palm Beach, the nights are much cooler in summer (often by 15-20 degrees) and we don't have the humidity.

based on your budget, we know you can live in the nicer communities
Do you have any other preferences besides being close to Yosemite, LT, Napa & SF?
Type of neighborhood/house?
Central city vs suburbs vs country living?
Do you want to be close to walking/biking trails?
do your plan to commute to your job, if so, how far or what amount of time is acceptable?

And for your schools, you have probably seen this but check out School Rankings for the Sacramento metropolitan area, California for the ratings.

I agree with NewToCA on the city choices, but your desired lifestyle will also dictate where you would like to live. Your money won't go as far in Granite Bay as the other choices, but it certainly can get you a very nice home.

Those are probably good choices. If you're interested in a small city, Davis might be worth a look. If you want to be closer to the city, Land Park and East Sac are both very nice and have great options for schools if you do a little research on school districts. If you like going to the SF area, Sac and Davis give you the option of taking the train.

There's a lot of nice suburbs 15-30 mins outside of Sacramento that are very new, and very safe to live in.

Lincoln

Rocklin

Roseville

Granite Bay
