Majin is just a troll, he'll say whatever he thinks will get a rise out of people. From what I have heard, Texas is slowly turning blue, especially in its bigger cities, so maybe it's not that different from Sacramento, where a deep blue streak in the city itself is surrounded by a ring of red in the outer suburbs and the rural fringes--although if the stream of Bay Area (and mostly Democrat) expatriates looking for suburban McMansions keeps flooding into Placer and El Dorado County, that might change too.

Sacramento is a political town, since all we have is a basketball team, politics is the preferred blood sport around here.

Just an FYI: yes, Texas is turning slightly but it will be years before it is anywhere near blue. I do think the OP has said, now a couple of times, the political scene isn't a deciding factor in his case, so I guess it doesn't really make too much difference what the rest of us think.

I agree-- check it out, ideally at the worst season weather-wise (summer?), so you know you can take the worst. I wouldn't consider moving to Texas, but my wife's strong fear of even a small possibility of tornadoes affects that. Interesting how people focus on politics, though I can understand it. There are some pretty conservative places outside of Sacramento. I like a variety of topography, which the Sac area has, but for some it's not a priority. I lived in Sacramento for 9 years. One thing for Dallas (not being snide): the airports put you within each reach of tons of places (DFW for numbers of flights, and Love Field for Southwest).

The good airport is something to consider. Because it is in the middle of the state, you can go any direction, in most cases without changing planes or even having a stop over. Plus most flights are less than 3 hours long, if you are flying throughout the USA> yes, and for SW flights there is Love Field.

Having lived in both Texas (twice thanks to Uncle Sam) and Sacramento (20 years up until 2009), I would decidedly choose Sacramento. My impression of Dallas was that it rises up out of and is surrounded by nothing. Drive a few miles outside of the DFW metropolitan area and nothing is what you get. Do the same outside of Sacramento in any direction and you're still somewhere - much of it different and interesting - most of it quite lovely.

What if Texas decides to secede and becomes another country? What will you do then, give up US citizenship and become a Texas citizen?

it isn't worth thinking about cause it isn't going to happen. No one really believes the state is going anywhere...
