Nobody is bragging about this. Consider that the bad air was caused by the most destructive fire EVER in California history. The fire was so bad it gave parts of the bay area very unhealthy air which has never happened before and SF is 175 miles from Paradise.

Almost all of NorCal was affected including Oregon, and all way down to Fresno with very unhealthful air.

When large forests burn they put out a lot of air pollution.

A couple years ago I was in Vancouver, Canada which has hundred of miles of thick forests within hundreds of miles. For almost a week straight Vancouver was completely socked in with smoke much worse than what we experienced recently. Visibility was down to 1/8 of a mile. They said there were literally over 50-100 fires burning in the forests over a hundreds miles away which I could not believe because the smoke was so thick in Vancouver. Now I can believe it, as the Paradise/Camp fire was 100 miles away.

Did you miss me...It's too bad you don't have your own FresNO forum. It must s_ck that you have to post stuff about FreezeNo in the Sacramento forum.

Anyhow, our local weatherman showed Sacramento sunny while the San Joaquin Valley was socked in with Fog.

It was sunny all day in SUNNY Sacramento

There isn't much difference between 50-60f in the winter(some ppl even prefer the colder temp).
30-40f in the morning is huge tho
30 means you use a lot of heating, while 40 means you barely even need it.

Yes, I miss you and your wild rants.
It's a shame you hibernate for most of winter. Ttyl.

Looks like most of the lows in Sac for the next ten days are above 40f -- not bad by national standards.

Agree it's great coffee weather, but, "Coold?" Shhhh -- don't let East Coasters hear us say that lest we be branded wimpy Californians! My brother's family in NC would kill for this weather. Cold is relative, of course. Sacramento in winter is nearly identical to other 'cold' Mediterranean climates, but much more than most of the country:

Seven day forecast

Sacramento 61/47 58/48 59/44 60/42 60/43 60/44 60/42
Barcelona 59/48 56/44 57/42 59/49 59/42 55/43 56/45
Jerusalem 58/43 59/45 55/46 57/43 59/43 57/43 55/40

Thanks for this!

I've always wanted to see how similar Sacramento's classic Mediterranean climate is to .....The Mediterranean.....and across the Globe, for example, Sacramento and Adelaide, Australia have near identical climates.

In Australia, only Adelaide (an increasing popular destination, and celebrated Wine growing region) has a Mediterranean climate, not Sydney, Melbourne nor Brisbane.

Yes, it is great coffee weather, read your kindle/book in a cafe kind of weather!

So we actually had one day of old fashion Central Valley fog that lasted a good part of the day but cleared up around 2pm (this was several days back).

In Sac, the old fashion Central Valley Fog forms overnight because the ground is wet/damp; the fog rises high enough so it looks like overcast high above. But this layer of "overcast" is really somewhere between 600-1,000 feet high. It gets capped and doesn't rise higher into the sky because the air on top (the cap) is colder than the air below. The colder air puts a lid on the fog/overcast and keeps it in place. If there is no decent wind the fog stays as an "overcast" sky with Cold air on top being the lid that keeps it in place. It looks like a very cloudy day, but if you drive to the hills and mountains to 1,000-1,500 feet you will see that its actually Sunny. The surrounding hills and mountains help to keep that fog/overcast sky in place.

When you combine those "overcast" "fog" days with days when its cloudy and rainy because of a storm system either coming, going or during, then Sacramento can feel and look a lot more like Portland than Los Angeles in the fall/winter. I actually miss these fall/winter fog days in Sac.

In the past 6 plus years, the old fashion Central Valley Fog has been near extinct in Sacramento because the air on top has not been cold enough to keep a lid on the fog that may form. And because the air and ground has not been damp enough. And because there has been too much air/wind movement to keep the fog from forming in the first place.

Despite the lack of fog Sac still has more of that pacific northwest winter feel than SoCal because Sac averages 10 degree colder than SoCal in the winter. Having said that, Portland/Seattle averages 10 degrees colder than Sac in the winter.

At work today it was cloudy and the damp from the rains but was unusually cold (felt like low 40s during the day). Tonight it got really foggy but felt the same temp. What happened?
