Redding 78F
Sacramento 65F
Roseville 70F
San Francisco 56F
San Jose 58F
Fresno 79F

Santa Barbara - 59F
Los Angeles - 63F
Palm Springs - 90F (yikes!)

I'm giving the win to Redding and Fresno! What sounds nicest to you guys?

We went out to eat tonight in El Dorado Hills, I wanted to eat outside because the covid levels in the waste water has been inching up in Sacramento region and I wanted to play it safe. We were outside eating in the patio between 7:15 - 8:30 ish. I will say the weather this evening while eating outside was wonderful tonight in El Dorado Hills.

I like San Diego and San Francisco, but I suspect both of them might be a little too chilly to eat outside this evening like I did here, Fresno and Redding might be good as well, but the general Sacramento region was nice tonight.

Redding & Fres: It's too early in the year to be that warm/hot at 9pm, we still have over a month of Spring left.

Sacramento high temp was 86F today. 65F at 9pm is gorgeous clear skies - no clouds. THE LUNAR ECLIPSE was pretty awesome tonight. It's was a full MOON at 9:11pm, then completely occluded around 9:55ish; its now almost fully lit. at 10:38pm.

This is a great time for the Sierras, rivers and waterfalls are full, snow on the higher elevations and higher trails, flowers a bloom in the meadows, grasses are green. Most trails are snow free yet not too warm for those rigorous hikes. Summer and fall are good too, but the chance of fire and/or smoke impacting you are much higher.....hopefully the fires and smoke are minimal this year.

Sacramento - 62F
Yosemite Valley - 62F

South Lake Tahoe - 55F

Kings Canyon NP - 53F
Sequoia NP - 53F

May Gray June Gloom - not a good time to be on the coast. I like the coast in August and the Fall months.

Sounds like a perfect early evening for being outdoors!

Just thought I'd mention Sacramento is registering 97F at 4 PM today, same as Palm Springs and hotter than Fresno or Redding by several degrees. That doesn't happen all too often!

11 PM temps around the West:

Eureka 53f
Sacramento 81f
San Francisco 63f
San Jose 65f
Santa Cruz 56f
Santa Rosa 74f
Concord 75f
Redding 79f
Fresno 79f
Los Angeles 57f
San Diego (Airport) 58f
San Diego (Scripps Ranch) 55f
Irvine 61f
Palm Springs 84f

Medford 59f
Portland 51f

Honestly, I don't know how people stand living in Portland and Seattle. We're in the middle of May, and it's still frequently drab and wet.

Enjoy the beautiful evening!

Yes you are right, that doesn't happen too often. But obviously it did on Wed afternoon and continued today. Gladly I missed it as I've been in Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Parks the last several days.

During the late spring or early fall, if Sacramento's usual general wind pattern changes from its normal direction from the southwest (cool moist air from the coast and SF Bay) to a northwind or offshore condition it can mean we get as hot as Redding, Fres, or Bako, very very rarely as hot as Palm Springs. If this does happen it usually lasts only 1-2 days and only once or twice a year.

Yesterday, May 19 - High Temp
Phoenix - 102F
Las Vegas - 101F
Palm Springs - 99F
Redding - 94F
Sacramento - 93F - No Delta Breeze and an off-shore condition with a strong North dry wind.
Fresno - 93F
Bakersfield - 92F

Sequoia National Park - 73F - Mostly Sunny
Kings Canyon National Park - 71F
- Mostly Sunny
