100f 6 mph wind - Sacramento

100f 4 mph wind Fresno

Bakersfield 101f

Phoenix 104f

3:30pm per Google

Not too nasty today. I was expecting it to feel raunchier(maybe my recent palm springs trip helped in my quick acclimation).

Low 30s/upper 20 dewpoint in Fresno right now. Lower 40 dews in Sacramento.
Low 20 dews in Phoenix!(heat index might be lower than in Fresno/Sacramento!)

Today is Good example of how the DELTA region of the Sacramento and San Joaquin Valleys (aka the Great Central Valley) is directly Cooled by the Cold Pacific because of its position within the Valley. North of Sacramento and South of Stockton within these Valleys are considerably warmer/hotter.

From North to South - Sacramento Valley

Redding - 87F
Chico - 86F
Yuba City - 84F

Sacramento - 76F

From North to South - San Joaquin Valley

Stockton - 79F

Merced - 93F
Fresno - 98F
Bakersfield - 98F

Why wasn't it cooler like this the past 7 days, chim?
Seems it's more the jet stream causing this disparity than the precious delta.

99f in Fresno and kind of humid! I hope this is AG humidity or were in trouble this summer.
18-20+ mph winds are coming tonite, however. That should dry the air down in the lower sjv.

Of course the jet stream affects everything. But, Sacramentos position in relation to the Delta/Bay and the cold Pacific allows for the cool air to directly cool Sacramento. Regardless of the jet stream, if the Delta didn't exist or if it was blocked by tall mountains it would not cool Sacramento.

For the last 21 of 25 days, Sacramento's high temps were very cool to comfortable, primarily because its prevailing wind direction from the south southwest-from the coast AND the geography of the Delta allowed for the cooling-moderating effect. The 4-5 days when it was in the mid/upper 90's plus, the prevailing wind was NOT from the delta/coast (south southwest).

Don't,
That's funny about long-term predictions isn't it. They never tell you that "9 days from now" it's going to be "nice weather"....Or that the "long-range forecast" is for mild pleasant weather. They only do it for less than ideal weather.

So for the last 3 months our weather has been near perfect - 90 days, 2 days the temp got kind of toasty, but that was just in the late afternoon, the mornings, nights and evenings were perfectly comfortably. But based on those 2 days this is how my friend just characterized the recent weather.

"I probably won't go outside tomorrow because it's going to be too hot. I say, really, how hot?. He says, 87 like how its been so hot for so long now". I say, it hasn't been real hot for almost a week. He says, well, yah know, it was in the 100's for the last several days. I say, no, it has NOT been in the hundreds for several days. Was it hot yesterday? He says, "I guess not". The day before yesterday? He says, "no". Actually, it hasn't been real hot 95% of the last month. He says, "its been real hot almost the whole month", I say....the whole month?............This is why I created this thread... for folks like him.
